Our History
On the Bayous of Southeast Louisiana, just twenty miles South of New Orleans, stands our historic school house turned Fishing Lodge: The Cajun Vista. Once the Barataria Elementary School, built in the early 1900’s, this megalithic structure was once the beacon of education for our small fishing community, fostering the young minds of K-8th grade. Now over 100 years later, our newly renovated, 10 bedroom fishing lodge sits in the heart of one of the most sought-after fisheries in the world: The Barataria Bay Estuary System!For over thirty years, we’ve been sharing the ultimate Louisiana fishing and lodging experience, each year hosting thousands of guests from all over the world! Our Spaces
Our 10 rooms cover all the bases to suit the needs of your stay! With everything from simple bunk room setups for loading up the guys to the grandeur of the Captain’s Suite for a romantic Louisiana getaway, all of our rooms are fully furnished and recently updated with private bathrooms, individual AC units, smart TVs, daily housekeeping services, and are cleaned daily!
1st Story
Once the cafeteria and recreation area of the Barataria Elementary School, our main lodge floor rooms open to a 1,200 sq. ft shared common area with ample sofa seating, pool table, and entertainment center, large dining galley, and a few short steps to our spacious back porch overlooking Bayou Barataria. This floor is great for large groups who want to take advantage of the shared recreation areas of our main lodge floor.
Bunk Rooms 1 & 2
Camp style bunk rooms with 6 twins for the guys trip! Utilitarian yet just as clean, comfortable, and updated as all of our rooms. Simply a place to have a hot shower and lay your head after a long day of fishing and some good Cajun food!
Family Rooms 3-6
Camp style but with a little more legroom. Great for the whole family! Rooms come with two queens and one set of bunks with ample space to spread out.
2nd Story
The suites of the second story provide more seclusion as well as elevated amenities for guests who wish to lodge in more luxurious accommodations. All the same perks and amenities of the main lodge rooms with a bit more space, privacy and sophistication. Enjoy your own secluded balcony to catch the beautiful Barataria sunset as it retires over Lake Salvador just beyond our grounds. Once classrooms used to teach the children of our community, these spacious high ceiling historical rooms are the perfect space to unwind after a long day of fishing, good eatin’ and making memories!
Captain's Suite
The jewel of our lodging-The perfect spot for a couple’s relaxing weekend getaway! The Captains Suite boasts a spacious and luxurious lay out, King Size bed and a sofa/daybed, jacuzzi tub, shower, smart TV access to shared sunset patio.
Double Queen Suites
Modern & spacious rooms with two queen beds, larger bathrooms access to shared sunset patio.

of fishing, nothing beats some cold AC and a hot plate of home cooked comfort
food! Savor in mouthwatering Cajun & Creole dishes passed down in our family
for generations and see why we Cajuns are known for our food! Enjoy Louisiana
staples-from Gumbos to Jambalayas, Red beans and rice to crawfish etoufee!
Many days here you can enjoy your day’s catch prepared from the water to your
plate for the freshest Louisiana seafood experience imaginable! From Redfish
grilled on the half shell, blackened, or smothered in a savory tomato based court
bouillon and served over rice to Fried Speckled Trout,Trout Almandine and a
multitude of dishes that showcase the versatility and deliciousness of Louisiana
shrimp. From fried shrimp po-boys, to shrimp etoufee, Creamy shrimp and smoked Tasso pasta, to shrimp creole. One things for sure when you’re here-
you can plan on eating good!
Our Staff
Our staff is another great source of pride for us here and it won’t take you long
to see why. Our fully staffed lodge is here to ensure that you and your guests
have the best Louisiana Hospitality experience possible! Our staff is onsite
nearly 24 hours a day to foster a lodging experience like no other! From the
moment you call our offices and are met with the welcoming and helpful voice of
our manager Ms. Josie to walking through the front doors and meeting our
housekeeping, kitchen staff, Chef’s, Captains, Groundskeepers and Owner’s. All
of us work hard daily to ensure that our guest’s experience is exceptional and
that we may remain Louisiana’s Premier Fishing Lodge and Retreat Center.
